My speech from today's “Three Years of Genocide” protest
2026-10-10, Prague
Reject Inevitability
I'm gonna start with the punchline. We must reject inevitability, because when we do we realise we have the power to change the world.
The horrors of October 7th were not inevitable. Israel could have chosen to not make Gaza into an open air prison, it could have decided against focusing its army so much on ethnic cleansing it forgot how to do defence, it could've learned from the US's imperialism blowing up in its face and not attempt the same divide-and-conquer tactics that destroyed Gazan democracy.
Reject inevitability.
Neither was the genocide in response inevitable. Israel could have come from the shock with an understanding that the path of death it has gone down until then only leads to destruction, it could've taken Sinwar on his offer for an “everyone for everyone” hostage exchange instead of doubling down on increasing the number of Palestinians rotting in prisons without trial.
Reject inevitability.
Neither was the international support for the genocide inevitable. Governments could've chosen to respect the most basic of international laws, to react to the most severe of crimes against humanity appropriately. Countries could have immeditaly cut military ties with Israel, sanction the entire government and every settler, threatened Israel with an immediate economic collapse by an export ban.
Reject inevitability.
Nor was the ignoring of the will of the people inevitable. Our leaders could have taken note when the Israeli navy kidnapped civilians participating in flotilas from international waters. They could've responded appropriately to the strikes and boycotts.
Reject inevitability.
Nor was the support within Israel for the genocide inevitable. My fellow Israelis could've remembered the many crimes done against the Jews over millenia and known we should never do the same. Reservists threatening to refuse service only a year prior as a response to the judicial overhaul could have made their threat to the army more than an empty threat. Young conscripts could've joined the brave people of groups like Mesarvot, refusing to become part of this blood-thirsty system.
Reject inevitability.
And the people of Czechia could've made our voice even louder, made sure war criminals like Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Saar or companies like Elbit Systems or NSO group know they're not welcome and rethink their visits.
Reject inevitability.
By being here today we're making the most important mental commitment one can make: we're rejecting inevitability. We refuse to accept the fascism, apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide, and more than that, we're refusing that we can't do anything about it. And only by rejecting inevitability can our movement grow. So keep rejecting inevitability, and don't give up: until the genocide stops, until the ethnic cleansing ends, and until every last Palestinian has full rights in the land they call home!
